Privacy policy

Last updated 19 October 2026.

Draft, not yet final

This is a first-pass policy, written to be accurate about what the site actually does. A few details still need confirming before this page is ready to publish properly. They're marked below in bracketed notes.

Who we are

bebepet (www.bebepet.com) is a UK pet breeder and listings directory. For UK GDPR purposes, we are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

[Placeholder, needs confirming: the legal entity operating bebepet, its registered address, and whether we need to register with the ICO. A named contact or data protection contact point goes here too.]

What this policy covers

This covers personal data we collect through bebepet.com itself: creating an account, saving or messaging about a listing, and the cookies the site uses. It doesn't cover the breeders' own websites we link to, which have their own privacy practices.

What we collect, and why

  • Account details. If you create an account to save listings or message a seller, we hold your email address and whatever profile details you give us. This is so the account can work; the lawful basis is performance of a contract with you.
  • Seller profile and listing details. If you list pets for sale, we hold what you give us about yourself and the animals: licensing details, location, descriptions and photos. Lawful basis is the same: performance of our contract with you as a seller.
  • Messages. Messages sent through the site between buyers and sellers are stored so both sides can see their own conversation history. We may review message content where it's been flagged as part of keeping the platform safe (legitimate interests).
  • Trust and safety signals. We run automatic checks for things like reused photos, reused phone numbers, or unusual listing patterns across the site, to catch likely scam or puppy-farm activity. This runs on data already collected for the reasons above; the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping buyers and genuine sellers safe from fraud.
  • Licence verification. Where we check a seller's stated licence number against a local authority's public register, we keep a record of what we checked and what we found, separately from what the seller told us, so a mismatch stays visible.
  • Technical and location data. If you allow location access or type a town so we can sort listings by distance, we store that only once you've agreed to it (see Cookies, below).

Sharing with authorities

Where we find evidence of unlicensed breeding, animal welfare concerns, or other illegal activity, we may share relevant data with whichever body is right for that concern: the local authority, the RSPCA or SSPCA, or the police. We don't do this on a mere accusation; it requires an actual basis for concern. The lawful basis for this sharing is our legitimate interest in crime prevention, combined with the exemption for this in the Data Protection Act 2018, rather than anything in a seller's or buyer's agreement with us.

Who else sees your data

We don't sell personal data to anyone. It's shared with:

  • Our hosting provider, who stores the site and its database on our behalf.
  • Authorities, in the circumstances described above.

[Placeholder, needs confirming: named hosting provider, and any other processor we end up using (an email service, analytics, and so on) once those are in place.]

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. Strictly necessary ones (keeping you logged in, basic site security) run without asking, as the law allows. Anything else, which currently means just remembering a location you've searched so you don't have to type it again, only runs once you've said yes in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the "Manage preferences" link in the banner, or by clearing your browser's cookies for this site.

We don't currently use analytics cookies. If that changes, we'll ask for consent specifically before switching them on.

How long we keep it

[Placeholder, needs confirming: how long account, listing, message and trust-signal data is kept after an account closes or a listing is removed. Until this is settled, treat anything on the site as retained for as long as the account or listing is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards for the reasons given above. A precise figure belongs here once decided.]

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to:

  • Show you the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct it, if it's wrong
  • Delete it, where we're not required to keep it for another reason
  • Restrict or object to certain uses of it
  • Give you a copy in a portable format

To do any of these, contact us using the details below. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we've got something wrong.

Children

bebepet isn't aimed at children, and accounts are for adults buying, selling or rehoming pets.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or why, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
